GHOSTS OF UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA By John Boyanoski. In "Ghosts of Upstate South Carolina," John Boyanoski, a reporter for the "Greenville Journal," tells the true stories of the region's many haunted places. Ghosts haunt the Upstate's roads and railroads, its hotels and theaters, its colleges and churches. (You'll be hard-pressed to find an Upstate college that isn't home to at least one.) And of course they haunt its homes. The ten ghosts at the Merridun Inn even throw their own Christmas party! And then there's the zombie. $14.99

GHOST STORIES OF NORTH CAROLINA By Edrick Thay. North Carolina's landmarks abound, and through their preservation and restoration the past breathes again. Of course in some places, the past never left. North Carolina is home to a great number of ghosts and legends, which testify to the human experience. $11.95

PIEDMONT PHANTOMS by Daniel W. Barefoot (2002) Hauntings from North Carolina’s Middle Region! The author and respected Tar Hell State Folklorist returns with more spooky stories, this time from the state’s populous middle region, including from the state capitol building itself. MOUNTAIN GHOST STORIES AND CURIOUS TALES OF WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA BY RANDY RUSSELL AND JANET BARNETT (1988) This small, hardcover book is a real treasure to anyone with an interest in lesser-known haunted places. These stories range from the beautiful and secluded mountains of western North Carolina and feature places and haunts like the Brown Mountain Lights and ghosts from places like Rumbling Bald Mountain; Hickory Hut Gap; Chimney Rock; Nantahala Gorge; and many others. $12.95

GHOSTS OF THE CAROLINA COASTS BY TERRANCE ZEPKE (1999) More than 30 tales collected along the coasts of North and South Carolina, some of the most haunted spots on the Eastern Seaboard. TAR HEEL GHOSTS BY JOHN HARDEN (1954) Another of my favorite books about ghosts in North Carolina is available once again.
