ELMER MCCURDY by Mark Svenvold (2002) The Misadventures in Life and Afterlife of an American Outlaw --- The opening blurb to this book says it all - "Born 1880. Shot Dead 1911. Buried 1977" - Elmer McCurdy was a failed outlaw who was killed during a holdup in 1911. He should have faded into history but in death, he accidentally found fame when an Oklahoma funeral home propped up his preserved corpse and began charging admission to see him. He later ended up as a sideshow attraction in the 1920’s and as a movie prop in exploitation films of the 1930’s and 1940’s. He finally ended up in a California funhouse in 1976 and was rescued during the filming of an episode of the "Six Million Dollar Man". Sound bizarre?
